Install the agent on Linux

One command, run as root, on any 64-bit Linux server.

The Linux agent backs up folders on servers — web servers, file servers, application data. It runs as a system service.

Before you start

  • A 64-bit Linux server (x86-64 or Arm64) with systemd: Ubuntu, Debian, Rocky, AlmaLinux, RHEL and similar.
  • Root access (sudo).
  • curl (or wget) and bzip2. On a minimal install: dnf -y install curl bzip2 (Rocky, Alma, RHEL) or apt install -y curl bzip2 (Ubuntu, Debian).
  • Outgoing HTTPS to app.beyondcloudbackup.com and, during installation only, to github.com (the backup engine is downloaded from its official release page).

Install

  1. Sign in and open Your account → Install on your computers → Linux.
  2. Copy the command shown there — it already contains your company code.
  3. Paste it in a terminal on the server, as root, and press Enter.

The script downloads the agent and the backup engine, registers the server with your company and starts the service. To give it a different name than the server's hostname, add --name NAME at the end of the command. Within a minute the server appears under Your computers.

Check that it runs

systemctl status beyondcloud-agent

The service should be active (running). Logs: journalctl -u beyondcloud-agent -n 50.

Choose what to protect

Linux servers have no desktop app, so we set up their backups for you: write to support with the folders to protect and the schedule you want.

Remove

curl -fsSL https://app.beyondcloudbackup.com/install.sh | sudo sh -s -- --uninstall

Backups already in Beyond Cloud Vault are kept.
