Back up MySQL

Consistent full dumps plus binary logs for point-in-time restore.

The agent makes consistent full backups of each MySQL database with mysqldump, and stores the binary logs every few minutes, so you can restore to any moment.

Supported: MySQL 5.7 and 8.x on Windows. The tools come with MySQL Server; nothing else to install.

1. Connect the agent to MySQL

  1. Open Beyond Cloud Backup → Databases.
  2. In the MySQL card, enter a user and password the agent should use — usually root, or a dedicated user (see below).
  3. Click Save and test. The card should show connected.

The password is stored encrypted on the computer and is only used locally.

Note — The user needs full rights on the databases and on the binary logs; root is the simplest choice. If your policy requires a dedicated user, write to support and we'll send you the exact grants for your MySQL version.

2. Binary logging (for point-in-time restore)

MySQL 8 has binary logging on by default. The Databases page shows binary log on or off.

If it is off, add to my.ini under [mysqld] and restart MySQL:

log-bin = mysql-bin
server-id = 1

Without binary logging you still get full backups; only restore to an exact minute is unavailable.

3. Create the backup

  1. Go to Backup → MySQL.
  2. Keep All user databases checked, or choose databases.
  3. Schedule: Full every day at 22:00 and Binary log every 15 minutes is a good start.
  4. Choose retention and Save.
